Any tips on safely smudging in a bowl?

Hey all! Was just wondering if there's anyone here that could share a few tips on how to safely light a fire in a bowl. I've been wanting to do this for offerings and rituals for a while, but I just didn't know how to go about it. I'm not quite sure what kind of bowl is appropriate and safest to use for these kind of things. I'm only looking to light fires that may take a few minutes tops, just to burn stuff like joss paper etc.

Would definitely appreciate it if somebody could fill me in on this. Thanks in advanced!

I use a smudging stick and put a tattered edge on one end cos it grips the fire quicker. Then I use an ordinary dinner plate to place it on as I’m walking around the room.

You usually have to keep lighting it as it goes out easily so I keep a lit candle on the plate as well as it’s easier to light the stick this way.

I’m all ears if someone has a better way to do it.

The best way to Smudging is to use an Abalone shell.
put some of your smudge stick in the shell light it and use a feather to do your smudging.
If you want to use a Bowl use a small round bowl that is heavy so that it doesn't burn through

Hey. Thanks a lot Native Spirit. I appreciate you taking the time to answer a lot of my questions. Although I think I used the wrong terminology. I don't think "smudging" was the right word I was looking for. I guess I'm just looking to burn ancestor money and I just want to know what kind of bowls or pots I can use that's more geared towards withstanding flames, especially intense ones.

I've heard someone say somewhere that they use stainless steel pots and I've once heard that clay bowls can do the job. I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm these for me, or any other type of bowls or pots to use.

Only you know how much you will burn, so size might be an issue for you.
But with anything use common sense about your situation and plans.

I like a cast iron dutch oven (3 legged) with a lid.
They are hard to destroy.
You can find them used and rusty for cheap sometimes.
Though I have never burned joss paper.

ive found copper containers with lids as snuffers and or organic like
Clam or oyster shell and improvised snuffer ~ lid

sage generally defined as SQUARE Shank Plant

in nature Square plants just seem "other worldly" or different Eara ~ timeline

my favorite sage is White, aroma seems wonderful

Note : smells like Reefer ~ So if you are around neighbor they might think you are smoking Pot

People who smoke are two to three times more likely to develop cataracts than people who don't smoke. A cataract is the clouding of the eye's lens, One of my friends 80 year old girl goes to like Fiji (she does nurse thingy with lions club Vision Doctors to repair these issues) where they use fire wood for night time illumination

POINT There is do smudge and get out of smoke area quickly or ventilate room and minimize time in very smokey room(s)

Clay pots are placed in a 1000F degree kiln. 538C
Glazed pots in 1800F kilns. A glazed bowl with a lid would be ideal to me!
Wish I could give you a Le Creuset pot with a lid I will be taking to Goodwill.
Way too heavy to ship to you. Too small, I found bigger ones...all from Thrift Stores!
