Dont worry when I go shopping soon for a new deck or two, it'll come with the instructions no doubt. Just kinda wanted to see how far afield one can go with their own way of doing things.

The direction and order in which the cards are placed depends on the spread. Sometimes it moves around in a circle. It can also be a matter of preference or what feels right at the time.

Silvergirl, make sure you look at Sacred Circle. It comes with a 300-page A5 book which not only advises on the divination meanings but also discusses symbolism and the card settings AND any relevent Celtic mythology associated with individual cards. Needless to say, the book is not a freebie.

When reading this spread first read card 13 through 11..this is the past.

Then move to 5 through 7 which represents the other person in the situation.

Cards 8 through 10 show the future as it may appear according to the way the situation is playing.

Finally card 4 should be looked at for the overview.
-------------------------------------------------------------
cards 1 through 3...represent the quarant their present role in the relationship

card 4..represents the outcome of the question regarding the relationship

cards 5 through 7 represent the other person involved in the relationship and their current situation

cards 8 through 10 ..the future of the relationship if things continue as they are.

cards 11 through 13..the past or history of the relationship and how it has affected the present situation

So, it sounds like you're saying that this sorta lays the groundwork for all kinds of Tarot decks?

Actually, Rider-Waite and it's clones use basic christian imagery but Sacred Circle is definitely pagan [there are others]

Probably "teaching granny to suck eggs" but have a look in
http://www.aeclectictarot.com - has lots of decks to have a look at and a forum where readers give comments on the various decks.
