Gassho in my mind could be used to show gratitude, state intentions and connect to Reiki and of course to just be Reiki for a moment (or even more than a few moments ).

I am however unsure what you mean by Ho-Ji-Rei meditation technique. I know of Reiji ho where you would let your hands instinctively move to where healing is needed. Is that what you mean?

By the way. Level 1 Reiki is not a Noob level. Personally I find the longer I spend utilizing reiki 1 techniques the more Reiki reveals itself. To selflessly let Reiji ho happen for instance, making sure I don't steer or interpret what happens was surprisingly way more beneficial and educational than anything I learned at Reiki 2 or even master level.
