Except the maker of the film is not Saami, so she got things a bit wrong interpreting it imo., but other than that it is interesting little film with truth in it.

I should have mentioned, you are on target bringing up the owl.
I heard it hooting about 4 nights back.
So waiting to see what message the owl is bringing.

In these parts the owl is bringing a message of death.
I enjoy your telling that the owl brings a message from the Ancestors.

I have never knocked on a tree before, cutting.
I was taught communicate with it and explain what your doing
and why and offer tobacco or other gift.Give thanks for the taking of it's Life.
Then honor it's life and try not to waste the resource of the wood and use
as much of it as you can.

I did see a Sundance tree get painted and prayed for by all the Dancers present.
It was tapped with a ceremonial axe once first.I did not see if the head was stone/rock.
I think the tree was wrapped with colored cloth of the 6 directions before cutting.
The cloth may have been after cutting though.

We use a wood stick and drum with trees and sing.
Sometimes living trees but mostly dead trees for drumming.
2 sticks knocked together are common if you have no clappers or drum.

Or somebody, a friend or a relative who had/has passed away but has a message for you … can come as an owl (or other-dimensional owl) & then “shapeshift’ into a person so you can see who it is.
And then yous ‘talk’.
