Are we really free willed?

I believe we have free will, deep down. But do we really practice it? Do we do things because society says we have to? EG get out of bed at 6am or whatever to go to a job we dislike so we can live? Or excercise because we want a good looking body because society or our friends or our parents say that's the norm?
Do we really do things from free will? Or are we influenced by our friends, job, society, etc?
When I am on the floor nursing, am I working with free will because I need money to pay my rent? Or am I there because I WANT truly want to be there.
I believe the body and the mind don't choose out of free will. I believe however our soul does choose from free will, however it's so darn hard to listen to our souls, the real part of us.

I think we do have free will - we choose whether or not to turn up for work, for example.

We are heavily influenced by our parents, family, friends, life experiences, genetics, school, television, computer, magazines, education, religion, culture etc.
It has 'made' you into what you are now. Of course you do have a saying in the matter, as you can accept or reject things.

Yes I agree with you Chrysaetos, but don't forget that what we believe we have a say in is still influenced by the programming and conditioning, you just can't escape it, its what you are as the mind body organism, unless you are Awakened then there maybe a little Self will sneaking in lol.

Hi All .

If we take a scenario where we have committed a crime and we are punished for that crime we will then find ourselves behind bars and along with that we find that we have limited freedom .

There are many things that the Individual experiences within mind .

Certain actions via our mind experience will lead us down the path that will limit us from being In expression of total free will or divine will as many say .

I realized very early the value of Free Will and have endeavored to make the most of it since then. Can't say for sure about your nursing job, but I'm always eager to face my day.

I am loving your answers.
I have a for instance here and it may sound really weird and off the hook. I was watching paranormal state last week, and when people lived in this house, and were sleeping in a particular room they had evil thoughts, thoughts of "you need to fetch this gun hidden in this closet and kill your parents" needless to say this kid had no clue his father had a gun hidden in that exact location. Also another kid starting cutting himself because this same voice told him to do that. Now is this mental illness (mind you this kid never had that voice after he moved to another home), or is that a spirit influencing you. Is that lack of free will?
