reverse abdominal breathing
Guruji recommended I use reverse abdominal breathing to build my core strength. I see so many versions of this on internet. Do any of you have any experience with this exercise?

Reverse? Fascinating. (no.)

Oh sky123, I would love to know how you do it and what you derive from it. :)
I'm looking to use it to build energy at the first dantien, specifically to feel and connect in a powerful way with my navel chakra. Different traditions use it for different things so the information out there is confusing. I find there's nothing more reliable than people's own personal experience!

It's just the reverse of what your doing now .
As you breathe in pull your abdominal area in and as your breathing out push your abdomen out....
It's not easy at first but if you practice a few times a day for about 5mins to start with then build it up slowly otherwise you may feel dizzy . It takes time but becomes normal after a while...
I don't do it permanently but find I switch from time to time. Put one hand on your stomach to feel the difference until you can just do it normally without actually thinking your doing it... ( If that makes sense ).
I do it to build up Chi as I practice/teach Tai Chi and Qigong, or I did teach until the Pandemic arrived so everything is on hold for now
I will look for a Reputable Teaching online for you and Post a Link....
Give it a try but don't push yourself, take it slowly and you'll get there...

This one is working!
sky123 Yes I echo Miss Hepburn - thank you so much!
(I need to speak yoga language to describe this Daoist exercise because that's the system I know best.) So for this exercise I pull up my perineum (root chakra) and sacral chakra to the navel and hold them tightly (automatically I do this in reversed breathing). The whole lower area gets tight and fiery and my muscles in that area begin to shake (I'm not in the best shape physically).
The energy wants to go up my spine to my head but I'm trying to keep it locked in the navel (that's my goal with this). I easily get intoxicated with energy and dizzy. That's because the energy always wants to be in my head. And that can bring me nausea sometimes with these lower chakra exercises. I've been told to switch from brain thinking to gut thinking!
I still don't completely understand what right hand over left for females is about (I guess females are more yin).
But overall this is exciting because now this reverse breathing practice is finally making way more sense to me and I can work with this and see if things shift.
Any recommendations as to how long to hold the inhale and abdomen? As long as it feels comfortable or should I count breaths?

I wouldn't worry to much about which hand goes on the top, it isn't important unless you want to get into Meridians etc: .Some say the Channels on Male & Female are different but I personally don't go that deep, why not try alternative hands and see.
You never hold your breath, just breathe naturally.... There is no need to count either.
