Enlightening Activity

As is my wont, this post is an ongoing overview of non-differential (non-dual) application of enlightening qualities in the context of everyday ordinary situations. There are those whose resonance with such material is evidence of an easy and natural affinity. Others seek and some can find technical or logical aspects of adherence in terms of an integral congruity of the expression of this subject. Others, not so much …this being a description, not an explanation.

Enlightening activity is a matter of seeing unified potential by virtue of everyday ordinary cyclic karmic differentiation (duality/creation). Enlightening response can only be such within the context of situational potential. If not for karma, there is no basis for the work of adapting enlightenment to conditions. In reality, they are one in the same, therefore there is no other place, no other time, no other mind.

Spiritual (nonpsychological) practice is awakened to and carried out within the natural transcendent function of one’s inherent enlightening potential being one’s own mind right now. This innate, natural function of true being is freely accessible when the subjective personality isn’t reified in the immanence and aftermath of spontaneous adaption. As such, as it is, as of yore, by natural accord in reality, even spontaneous impersonal response is naturally mindful of enlightening qualities without conjuring cloying self-consciousness. All orthodox formal, reformative, sometimes renunciatory provisional teachings of all times are otherwise, yet having their necessary, temporary results for the benefit of beginners, whose will to enlightenment is key in realizing the benefit of personal audacity in terms of strategic detachment from those same provisional teachings as well as one’s habitual dualistic relationships with Creation according to the time.

Even in terms of exemplifying one’s psychological acceptance relative to all manner of things, this is still perpetuating a notion of the absolute existence of the person conceiving “acceptance”. At issue is unconscious adherence to an habitually perpetuated notion of psychological patterning in terms of self-positing identity vis-a-vis pattern-awareness relative to a psychological functionality of the being that is going to die. All this means is that one perpetuates the illusion of the world in terms of the illusion of the personality’s perspective alone, yet such is in concert within the totality of ageless human psychological consensus. This alone is the device feeding and perpetuating humanity’s numberless sources of compounded karmic momentum. This is to say that karma is essentially psychological, which is another name for conditioned thought. The nature of conditioned thought being the jewel of ego-awareness is none other than phenomenal pattern-consciousness of the three kinds.

It is possible to adapt to creation without entering into personal ploys of “acceptance, rejection and indifference”, whereby one consequently refines one’s perceptive capacities to once again re-access nonoriginated “cessation” of compulsive identification as one’s psychological functions of the being that is going to die. One doesn’t stop being a person, one only ceases identifying as the person’s psychological function-bundles comprising the thought-apparatus of the temporary physical, emotional and mental personality-consciousness.

The subtleties of such observational practice can only be entered into when one transfers one’s impersonal intent in terms of subtle awareness, from the timidity of the formal meditation cushion to the wild potential of everyday ordinary situational karmic momentum for all time. Why? Potential is the basis of karmic evolution as well as spiritual (nonpsychological) transformation. Such non-dual potential is only to be found within the context of situational karmic cycles by virtue of nonpsychological awareness. Buddhism calls the actualization of this natural capacity the Dharma Eye. It is not the person— it is the nature of reality. Buddhism calls such true reality by such true seeing Suchness. Those who actualize reality in accord with Suchness access the Supreme Vehicle of buddhas and tathagatas. Suchness is the substance; the Supreme Vehicle is the function. There is no thing to be attributed in terms of liberation by the vehicle of enlightening accord in reality. Suchness is just a name placed over the duct of unspeakability. It cannot be manufactured in trance. It’s just your own mind right now. It is only by virtue of the polluted that the pure can be refined naturally in the true immaterial body of awareness having no location. It is a matter of seeing alone. In this sense, real knowledge, being as is in terms of natural perception independent of personality reification, is seeing open awareness in terms of open awareness. Such clarification of awareness (as the dharma eye) is termed seeing. Taoism calls this the Virtue of the Receptive.

Authentic formless meditation by continuous subtle observation is carried out by virtue of the situational world at large. Real meditation has no sense of refuge; there is no temporary insight into the small vehicle of personal enlightenment to be had. The world presents itself as one’s situational potential. Reality and delusion are a singularity, both one and the same. In terms of authentic practice, if not for delusion, there would be no way to see reality.

Reality, independent of the person(ality), has never depended on one’s personal sudden illumination because the inherent spiritual capacity of enlightening being is already your own mind right now by virtue of nonoriginated awareness, which is therefore your selfless nature. It is already thus. Reality doesn’t depend on personality reification to be thus. It is only in terms of the Created which through the laws of karma, arbitrarily subjects enlightening potential to the energy of psychological perspectives of self, other, good, bad, right and wrong relative to time; the Uncreated, on the other hand, being nonoriginated awakenedness, is already selflessly so, the being’s true identity without contriving extra steps using one’s Unborn mind to reify any such personality-patterns in terms of the specific sets of psychological processes now and then perpetuating one’s conditional awareness, conditional identity and conditioned reality, ie: delusion.

Ultimately, there is no thing. Arriving as just this, the extremity of one’s Absolute nature isn’t a mystery— the voiding non-being void voids voidness; there is no thing to the degree that even the sense of absence is absent. The spiritual (nonpsychological) quality this recondite knowledge intends is and has always been presence as mind immanent, without self, without being, without existence of relative distance or beginning; such is selflessly aware unattributable nondifferentiated unity without inside or outside. Knowledge, per se, is simply the quality of awake, as in the absolute abstraction of unattributable miraculous awareness.

It’s not a mystery; there simply is no thing. As such, one’s nature is the nature of awake. No thing does not constitute a thing. Awareness is not created. As such, there is no thing. Reality is knowledge beyond being. Knowing and nonbeing is itself selfless aware awakenedness before Creative relative incrementality having ever moved. Such potential is forever at the cusp of going into action beyond a knowledge of movement or stillness in perpetuity. Yet knowledge as potential is knowledge of potential in terms of latency. Latency is perpetually as is in terms of no-thing. This is the nature of true knowledge. Real knowledge is all at once. There is no thing. This is your nature, aware, inconceivably aware.

The real mystery subsiding in the spiritual (nonpsychological) is the possibility of spontaneous enlightening application by real knowledge in terms of transcending creation while in its (delusional) midst and activating its (karmically derived) real potential merely by seeing reality as such, in terms of karma’s nondifferentiated essential unity, on the spot. Awakening as such, is seeing Power by virtue of the receptive (impersonal) experience of the scene before you in terms of essential reality. Delusion and reality look the same because they are the same. Such seeing is realization of inconceivable accord in reality.

That’s just a fancy way to say that one’s habitual psychological projections of self and other cease to be, in terms of right now. This is knowledge of Suchness, being (in buddhist terms), the supreme vehicle of all prior illuminates. This is what taoism calls the ultimate state and practical application of transcendent unified reality that perpetually arises from within the inherent potential of ordinary karmic situational evolution. It’s not some other place or time, nor is it a euphemism for trance. It’s just your own mind right now.

This authentic teaching is the same as all authentic teaching by any other name. The Chinese name is Quanzhen, or Complete Reality. Buddhism says reality described by its mind-only teaching tradition is Suchness. It’s not some other reality. If you don’t see reality as is, in terms of one’s selfless aware potential, you go along with the flow of creative momentum unawares by positing selfish pattern-awareness on reality. If you awaken to reality and learn adaptivity in terms of selfless potential as conditional incrementality, then it is said, you go in reverse, along with its essence (one’s inherent unified awareness), which is its source. It is simply a matter of exercising flexibility and firmness, according to the time. This is “turning the light around.” Some refer to this “operation” as reversal. There is no other “technique” involved in turning the light around. It is simply a matter of seeing. The term simply denotes not using awareness in the usual habit-contrived dualistic conditional manner by assigning personal views of self and other in order to arbitrarily reify the personality of the knower, thinker and liver of life. Using awareness to see reality as is without intermediary is also called seeing reality, or seeing essence.

In terms of taoism, the timing of flexibility and firmness is the Science of Life, whereas stabilizing natural spiritual accord in reality is the Science of Essence. The lowest form of liberation is awakened in beginningless not-knowing. How is this in practical terms? Real knowledge is one’s impersonal streaming spontaneous situational acceptance without conceiving the personality’s habitual psychological postures of acceptance, rejection or indifference. Acceptance is just seeing what is, without contriving psychological postures reifying the person. Reality is only seen when not using awareness in terms of the person. One simply has no contrivances to conceive relative to the person. When one’s person is stabilized in natural spiritual (nonpsychological) accord in reality, one enters into nonbeing inconceivability, on the spot. It’s not different than your own mind right now, and no one is the wiser by virtue of one’s adaptive enlightening response to conditions.

One never loses psychological functions in terms of inherent enlightening capacities because mind is one; the nonpsychological and the psychological are actually nondifferentiated capacities in terms of the awakened being that is going to die. Obviously, nonpsychological awareness doesn’t entertain self-reified identities. Conditionally, the psychological (self-reifying consciousness) gets hung up in terms of its operational dependence on pattern-awareness, the basis of habit-energy. These are the streams of karmic momentum perpetuating bondage to forms, formlessness, and desire. It is also natural to experience permanent liberation because enlightening accord in reality is naturally a priori by virtue of the conditional. That is, the unborn is perpetually so, being your own mind right now, whether you know it or not. If you find entry into inconceivability, there is nothing to know in terms of conditional intricacies. Why? Seeing potential, one adapts to potential because such is inherent in situational evolution. Conditional intricacies are relative to delusion, and for those who see potential, delusion is reality. Delusion and reality are the same. This is why this post is in the non-duality section of this forum.

The province of nonduality is not a philosophical tenet relative to abstract absolutism. Nonduality is the essence of reality. It's not philosophy at all. As such, it is possible to enter into reality itself by virtue of one's essential nature which is not different, and in so doing, one is able to transcend the actual dual nature of creation and abide in creation in terms of its essence alone. In terms of "immortalism" authentic practice of mystical taoism is allegoric of this truth.

One must find entry into the transcendental mechanism of “alchemic” reversal not by rejecting delusion, but by the selfless absorption of its potential. There is no other potential; there is no other reality.

In terms of formal meditative exercises, it’s fine to contemplate emptiness of the absolute; emptiness of the relative; and the emptiness of emptiness (true emptiness void of emptiness), sitting on the edge of a cliff, as it were— but realizing enlightenment in terms of carrying out its practical application in the midst of everyday ordinary situations unbeknownst to anyone is not a matter of formal postures, much less relativistic movement or stillness. Use of the self-reflective psychological apparatus is simply the wrong tool for the purpose of self-refining enlightening activity. Why? Potential is inherent in the situation itself, not the person. The person is not energetically, creatively separate from situational evolution— that is to say karma. Creation itself is karmic. This is the realm of Cause.

Buddhism expresses “activating the mind without dwelling in its contents.” Taoism expresses “seeing through phenomena without denying its characteristics.” Together, these express the truth that karma is none other than enlightenment, and reality looks the same as delusion (because it is the same), whether one knows it or not. Having awakened to potential, one can learn to adapt enlightenment to conditions, absorb its potential and refine “the elixir of immortality”, so to further the way of endless transformations whereby one sublimates oneself physically and spiritually.

Authentic practice is this spontaneous impersonal adaption transcending endless spiritual transformations by virtue of created karmic cycles. It’s not that the person does anything. Selfless adaption is entry into the realm of Causeless unity, in terms of everyday ordinary situations. Enlightenment and delusion are not different in reality. Enlightening activity is the actualization of this truth in terms of (nondual) reality itself. It is a matter of seeing alone.

Taoism calls the timing of what buddhism calls "subtle spiritual operation", "taking over Creation and stealing its potential." One must understand that the Dharma Eye is not an element of the person(ality). It is entry into inconceivability, yet such is as natural and easy as "turning over one's hand."

Seeing through karmic resonances, potential has no end; such as essence has never entered the creative. Neither ordinary nor holy, our nature complete reality, causelessly expressing one’s immaterial body of awareness, which has no location. All is thus, there being no inside or outside relative to one’s impersonal accord in reality. So the emptiness of all things is not void after all, and the web of creativity is essentially nondifferentated beyond philosophical speculation. There is nothing missing, there is no remainder, nor is there cause or explanation; all prior illuminates’ descriptions of impersonal perpetual result is the inconceivability of the way of Reality.

It is just the way it is, and no one knows why.

Re post#1............Too long, drawn out and complicated!
I ignore long posts as they lose my concentration. Shorter posts that are to the point are the ones that I read.

hi deci belle,

your posts pack a lot into a small space... I have to concentrate to read them and even then a part of my mind wanders...

usually excess wordiness means a confused mind and I go find greener grass but you pull it off well. Apparently, you have some experience in what you talk of...

thanks for reminding me about the 'out in the world'. I've done it for so long I just take it for granted and forget that is not the way most others go about things... maybe i should think about that next time I open my mouth...

you've said a lot of other things that resonated...

just wanted to comment on the 'delusion' thing. While I hadn't thought of it that way before it makes sense... however... I'm not naive enough that I won't postulate that the idea of merging of 'delusion' and 'reality' isn't just another delusion that needs to be merged with reality... where it ends I don't know and at this point i'm starting to think the point is things are designed so I can't. Unless I just randomly want to make a proclamation about what it is.

Hi DB ,

Enlightening is a buzzword here . Thanks a lot for posting an elaborate mechanisms for this . Very few have contributed such an elaborate thread in just 5 posts . It's very much appreciating .

Your experiences and insights of buddhism and taoism have enriched it further.

Once again thanks for sharing .

I will counter Lao Tzu and his quote, (even tho we all get his point, with great respect),
a quote that we have all heard a 100 xs here...

"Those that know live a wonderful life and teach others by their example."

I agree with you both! But ...

To me this post is like torture, and I was wondering if that kind of torture could lead to enlightenment.
There are spiritual practices along extreme pain.
Once I had my mind in a thousand pieces, and I could reach a transcendent state precisely because my body was very painful.
In my childhood, I often had horrible migraines, and I think that's how I learned to put myself in other mental states.

I don't recommend though, sitting still is enough.

Reading is an acquired skill. In France, every kid is conversant with the philosophical canons. Like you, I don't like reading. Even a wordy menu turns me off. But I was forced to read by my mom. My first book, which I still hate, was "The Little Prince". I can still remember lugging a heavy bag of books to the car every time my mom took me to the library with her. She would be lugging two bags full literally. How could anyone read that much?

i was thinking, with the amount of concentration it takes to correlate her ideas together, one might be able to do a meditation on what she wrote and get to the 'still point'.

But like you say it wouldn't be easy... then again I'm not of the sort to think that the wisest thing is only to do easy things...
