I think Tai Chi is fantastic and just as effective if not more effective than walking meditation, although walking meditation is fantastic too, what little i've tried of it.

You might be surprised how powerful a walking meditation can be. Normally we see things in 3 dimensions but in a walking meditation, what people normally do not see becomes part of our reality.

If we are not paying attention to thoughts or anything verbal or language based, we are not thinking. But yea the brain can still be offering up thoughts, it just we or consciousness are not "reading" them or thinking. We have our attention elsewhere.
Also remember we are not the body or the brain. So saying "we are thinking" just because the brain is running it's programming is not really accurate. The brain produces thought, we may become aware of it, and depending on how much we identify with whatever it is saying, we experience it or are influenced by it.
think·ing
noun
the process of using one's mind to consider or reason about something
If one is unaware of thought, they are not thinking. But yea the brain, the computer, is still running it's programming so we don't walk into a tree! There is no "being" or "person" or "entity" or consciousnesses in a computer neither is there one in our brain. A computer or brain does not have a thinker within it... but we are merged with it in a way until we are not... that fact we can ignore thoughts, doubt thoughts, question thoughts, and become liberated or non-identified with thought shows our superior relationship with the brain. It operates the body, translates sensory data, stores memory, but we have free will over how we interpret or not interpret experience in the now.

INTERESTING POINTS!
Some people have experienced driving a car without 'thinking' and have no idea how they got to where they ended up.
I had an instructor who experienced such while driving a motorcycle. He stopped driving a motorcycle.
People, for the most part, do not realize we do virtually everything without thinking. Putting one more item in the 'automatic' category is something we 'think' we can not do, but when in a walking meditative state, it can be done for us 'automatically'.
For those who never have experienced this, it is almost impossible to relate this to them. Quieting the mind is in many cases a rarity.

' Quieting the mind is in many cases a rarity. '
Some people misunderstand meditation as meaning we have to stop thinking. Rather than stopping thinking, meditation should stop all the extraneous, unnecessary thinking, such as distracting thoughts about the future.
Quieting the mind does not mean to stop thinking, here's a very simple explanation of Buddha's Teaching....

Hard for people to comprehend that some of the things we have to consciously think about doing can be done automatically like virtually everything that is done with our body.
Can you imagine if we had to consciously think and then execute everything that goes on in our body which is normally done automatically for us?

If you look back at what you were thinking about when that happened........
you might realize you were not thinking..... just on automatic.

If somebody looked at your Aura when this was happening, they probably would see a lot of Purple which is indicative of being in a meditative state but also not in a state to be able to drive a vehicle.
