Gayatri Mantra

Hello,

I learned about the sacred Gayatri Mantra during a summer stay at college in 2014 and it brought me a lot of joy. I would like to meditate on it again, but I understand that there are so many different translations of the mantra, and I am wondering if there is a translation considered by Hindus to be "best" in terms of proper translation from Sanskrit to English.

If someone could please provide an accurate translation of the Gayatri Mantra and its source, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Gayatri Mantra is also known as the Savitri mantra is a highly revered mantra from the Rig Veda.
Gayatri Mantra is the foremost mantra in hinduism and hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom.

For Gayatri mantra or any other mantras, aarti, chalisa, ved puran you can go to : http://www.shreeshreeshaktiparivaar....pedia/mantras/

Namaste.

Even though I can translate the Gayatri Mantra for you, you probably won't end up understanding my translation anyway, as the first part of it has to do with the three 'Lokas' or 'Dimensions of material existence' "Bhur" = lower Loka (Tamas), Bhuvar = Middle realm of existence (Raja) and Swah = The topmost level of light and goodness (Satva). It is also in reference to the lower, middle and higher chakras, with "Tat" or "That" representing Brahman or Absolute God transcending all as the inward sun's energy begins to dawn and awaken. I could go into it more, but it gets more complex as I go along, but yeah it is a prayer from the Rig Veda.

I just wanted to make this post to say; did you know that each main Hindu Deity has it's own "Gayatri Mantra"? The Vishnu one escapes me right now, but I have been chanting the Shiva one all night...

"Aum Tatpurushaaya Vidmahe
Mahadevaaya Dhimahi
Tannoh Rudrah Prachodayath

Aum Namah Shivaya

I love doing the Gaytri Mantra. Feels like I connect to some ancient source of wisdom regarding the Source of All being. I like do it three time before I do Surya Namaskara when I get up. It sets the energy in a nice way. Then some Surya namaskara if I can that day.
