Good words from other languages

Do you have any favourite words from other languages? For everyday things for example.

I like Eau for water. Hombre for man. I think Squaw is a great word for woman...

I have been trying to add the correct way to write voila, my favorite word ...and
everything I said earlier has been deleted...WEIRD!

Let's see if this even will post!
I previously said squaw was politically incorrect.

Omg youve done it again to me Miss H.

I was deeply annoyed when I read that Honza thought that squaw was acceptable and nice. Actually it’s deeply offensive and derogatory to the Native American women and to other people as well.

It’s a bit like calling a western woman “a tart” or something to that effect.

Perhaps you didnt realise that Honza.

You are right I didn't. What does squaw actually mean then? I thought it was Native American for 'woman'....

The word used to be used in the old B&W Westerns that I watched as a kid. Is it only recently that
it has become offensive? I don't think it was meant offensively in the films.

keinehora, Yiddish - pronounced Cana hara

Living in NYC for years --- if you said, for example...
''I know she'll get that job,'' (innocent, right?)
Quickly a Jewish friend would say, ''No! That's a Kanahara!!''...like jinxing her.
Funny superstition.

Well, if that's where you are getting your current ideas from...
I'd say you're making a HUGE mistake.
American Westerns were horrible, made decades ago; FULL of the ways of White Men's ignorance, brutality, treatment and
attitudes in general towards Native Americans.
Also, if you don't like someone, shoot 'em and kill' em...leave 'em in the dirt street.

But, you're right just saying squaw then WAS ok.
