How would you measure spiritual progress?

Ive heard a few people say that how joyful you are is your a measure of your spiritual progress. If thats the case, I seem ro have gone backwards. I fall into deep misery, but the paradox is that Im deeply grateful for that, because the pain deepens my soul. Ive got this deep reverence for everything now, and wisdom and understanding. Life is truly sacred and beautiful.

By the acknowledgement more gracefully, as the years go by! That there is always another level, another evolution, no matter the progression abiding now.
Used to be a disappointment haha, now its the gift that keeps on giving!

It's not an easy journey.
Full of peaks and troughs . Like a rollercoaster ride .
But I believe it's still worth the "down " times because it really IS a gift...

I feel it's a very unique individualistic experience and journey . Lows being the 'dark night of the soul' experience and the highs being 'the awakenings'. These seem to be cyclical and can happen many times over in one's life. I feel as this happens over time we become more humbled, wise and enlightened as we learn, grow and evolve.

I like Ramana Maharshi's simple statement:

The degree of freedom from unwanted thoughts and the degree of concentration on a single thought are the measures to gauge spiritual progress.

I believe that you can rely only on your inner guidance (when not distorted by your beliefs and wishful thinking).

I am making progress when I notice that I take more time responding to a question……

That's the one I was trying to think of!!
Another one is how much you are not bothered by things and your amount
of just being happy, content, flowing with 'whatever'.
That may have been said by Abraham-Hicks ---or maybe that was about how to gauge success.
Oh well....whatever...

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

I like that one too and the way to achieve that would be through meditation.
