In very simple terms we are reminded in the midst of darkness there is light….and overwhelmingly from one source that draws our attention….

Yes, in in a word. This is the origins of the werewolf legend, people have been known to go crazy during a full moon because the gravitational effects of the moon has altered the water in the brain. I used to work in mental health and knew people who went bonkers during the full moon. Spirituality begins in the brain.

There are all kinds of Pagan rituals associated with moon cycles and not just witchcraft - which is why one of the reasons the number thirteen gets so much bad press and the calendar months are so messy. There used to be thirteen months to the calendar year based on the lunar cycle but because the Roman Catholic church had such a fixation against the number thirteen, they took Ophiucius out of the astral calendar and now there is no healer.

Because we have been taught to fear the darkness, and that begins with the hominids who were not much more than prey for lions and tigers and bears, oh my. Nobody tells you that without the darkness there is no light, and what you perceive yourself to be comes from darkness.

Werewolves are really about rabies infected canines biting you and you developing symptoms. In some parts of the world they start to imagine they're having puppy pregnancies. The ''connection'' to the moon is obvious as rabies infected become very sensitive and agitated. The moon is a symbol of the night, when there are less stimuli so in the legends the moon becomes associated with werewolves over time.

In the legends I remember, humans turned into werewolves during the full moon but that was a superstitious analogy for the effects of the moon on the brain.

And there are people like me who visualize Theia, the size of Mars, sacrificing herself when she collided with Gaia (Mother Earth) so as to produce Selene (our beautiful Moon). That incident probably was the greatest change on Mother Earth (Gaia). Some believe we may have had at one time two or three moons. What a sight that would have been.

The Moon, especially the Full Moon, can be seen here on Earth. It is know as the tides. I loved watching boats, coconuts, etc. floating upstream all on their 'own' power, because of the Tide. To me, that is one of the 'free wonders' of our world that not everybody has seen.

The full moon for this month is tomorrow on June 3.

An insightful article by female enlightened master Anandmurti Gurumaa on the significance of the full moon in spiritual practice...

Quote:
The moon is cool, the sun is hot. And our mind should be cool like the moon, so that we can remain calm and equipoised in every situation, always making wise decisions. On the contrary, an ordinary mind is full of impurities and negativities, which makes the mind disturbed and unhappy.

There will be two full moons in August 2023. The first is on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, and the second full moon will be on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

That of August 1 is a super-moon, and will appear larger and brighter, so be prepared to enjoy it.

The most common name for the August Full Moon is the Sturgeon Moon. As with other full moon names, it’s inspired by nature and refers to the high numbers of sturgeon caught in high numbers in North America’s Great Lakes.

The Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan, celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters are celebrated during this time period of the full moon, and is on August 30, the occasion of the second full moon.
