earth bound, desires twirl us around
looking to heavens, feet on ground
cyclic joy and pain, cause of fear
afraid to lose, what we hold dear
joy in permanence, never found

illumined sages speak of soul
scriptures affirm we may be whole
feeling complete, with bliss replete
each fellow being, with love greet
we decide to make God our goal

we look within, at head and heart
throbs divergent, they stand apart
our ego spawned thoughts spiralling
obvious cause of suffering
thus our life anew, we restart

we follow not any doctrine
simply, our head and heart align
ceasing to size, we vaporise
delighting in each life surprise
choosing the path of love divine

heart is where each impulse begins
cry when we lose, laugh when we win
yet heart invites Gods miracles
bliss renewal ineffable
provided we be free of sin

no sooner we shift, clear light dawns
erst fears and desires, are both gone
within our heart, Gods love awaits
to throb of bliss, our soul gyrates
Gods loving touch, sees us reborn

moment to moment, we thus flow
magnetised with an inner glow
pulsating within, day and night
our open secret, in plain sight
loving equally, friend and foe

narrow mind cannot understand
our heart uplifted by Gods hand
we would, if we could, our joy share
each soul must themselves with love pair
soul transcending to pastures grand

Darkness reigns, unleashing in hearts, terror
Dead to voice of conscience, due to stupor
Delusion veiling light, our sin, soul stain
Feral desires, causation of our pain
Love the way, to merge with our Creator

We are the captor and the prisoner
Our error, making ego emperor
Succumbing to temptation, boon now bane
Darkness reigns

To feel Gods touch, we need no translator
The way lies simply, in childlike prayer
Liberation, when desires to rest lain
Gods love and light, we then gently ingrain
But if free will chooses, ego caper

fearful to walk the talk, we balk
mindful eye perceives ego stalk
something’s not right, inner conflict
being tendency to resist
ascension awaits, yet we gawk

Ascent and descent of the life current
Sensory delight, bliss glow radiant
Joyous dance of our playful innocence
Until jarred by thought interference
Spewing fearful desires as sentiment

Each wave of the vast ocean is transient
Yet as collective whole, ever present
Essence of presence, dances to cadence
Ascent and descent

Head-heart melded, with love in alignment
Tranquil joy calm, our native element
Divine elixirous effervescence
Mist of bliss infusing luminescence
Pulsations within our heart resident

Brave spirit accepts things the way they are,
detached from outcomes, present in the void,
humorously wearing all earth life scars,
essence of presence always overjoyed,
refusing to be, by ego thoughts toyed.
Thus in but not of the world, soul flows on,
dwelling not overmuch on moments gone,
here and now present, consciousness vibrant,
each life breath accepted, as a new dawn,
living with gratitude and contentment.

we readily admit that we know not how
the tumbler falls each morn
enabling us to awake
from our slumber

we are astonished!

so here we are then
like a computer rebooting
memory infusing sense of continuity
to our fleeting mind-body ego form identity
which we then take to be the real us
even though facts are otherwise
we yet think and act as fools

we are astonished!

musing in silence we see
that even though we have aged
innate aliveness, screen of consciousness
remains unchanged upon which earth life does play

we are astonished!

universe tests and jests
posing problems needing solving
we assume the role of limited doership
jubilant at our success and sorrowful at failure
while the hermit living next door just smiles
doing nothing save choosing response
dream life plays on in both cases
one is happy, the other not

Heads or tails, either way we lose
Fears and desires, make us tumble
Thwarted by ego spawned ruse

Born free, we imprison ourself
That’s the way the cookie crumbles
Thus aphorism ‘know thyself’
Be now still, ceasing to grumble

Drawn to illusions, we stumble
Endless craving, desirous spree

“better a rebel, a nerd, than a blind follower of the herd”

Buddha urged to illuminate darkness
Set forth towards the closest habitation
His countenance aglow with luminescence
Was asked by a passerby cause of his elation

Buddha replied that he was the one, the Arahant
Light that lights all lights, eternal God essence
Master of elements, glory of enlightenment
His aura bestowing soul transcendence

Buddha’s affirmation fell on deaf ears
No one grasped his words seemingly vain
Earth bound weary souls caged in myriad fears
Try as they might, exalted wisdom could not ingrain

Thus came about the need for wisdom intermediate
The four noble truths in easy symbolic language
Eight fold path being way to heavens gate
Simplified teaching became a rage

Narrow mind oriented to resist
Accepts not authenticity of oneness
Unaccustomed to light, our delusion persists
Feeding ego cravings in delusion of separateness

Most religions therefore opt to contour the ultimate truth
Subtly hinting towards the single underlying reality
Knowing we may not embrace God forsooth
Urging practices to infuse in heart purity

Spirituality on the other hand is direct
Unfettered by ritual, custom or blind belief
Head and heart with love aligned, stance erect
Directly imbibed wisdom gives soul permanent relief
