Sky I'm just pleased you didn't mean John the Baptist ...
I would have felt terrible talking about the "heads "..

But back to the song and I can only think that yes, 10 lords a leaping could , realistically only refer to the 10 commandments.
The "leaping " about could and probably would refer to "man" (and woman) trying and failing and trying and failing to keep or break the commandments .

That's a good idea, falling down and getting back up (leaping). I like that one.

On the ELEVENTH day of Christmas etc:
Eleven pipers piping could be referring to the Bagpipes which were used as a symbol of rebellion by Roman Catholic Recusants during/after the Reformation.

On the TWELFTH day of Christmas etc:
Twelve drummers drumming could be referring to the Twelve points of the Apostles Creed or mybe the Twelve Disciples.

Happy Christmas everyone, I hope you all recieve the 'Gifts' from your True Love....

Hi Sky. I missed the bit where you wished everyone a happy Christmas....

Thank you, and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Yes, let's all hope that we receive the most precious gifts .
As they say, it's not about the "presents" but the "presence "...
And let us all be grateful that in general, and within reason , we can enjoy Christmas and give thanks and be grateful that we can enjoy some nice food with our loved ones to celebrate this joyous season.
So many people in the world will experience Christmas living in fear, poverty, homelessness , bereavement.....

The 12 days of Christmas can also represent the 12 months of our calender year.
And we celebrate in the 12th month the birth of Christ.

Let us also , in that moment , count our blessings because there really is ALWAYS someone worse off.

And as I always say ""There but for the grace of God go I .."
