I see what you mean now after reading it again, ' Born to the deathless ' is awkward but could also refer to ' born again ' as a state of mind....

I often found the Serenity prayer useful at times.
I never gave thought to it's creator our where it came from.
My only concern was that it was useful in regaining Peace and Balance of Mind.
It is another Wisdom not-mantra that can be useful like a mantra.

Yes it matters not where it came from but its beautiful and useful, it's a pity not all can enjoy it.....

Is that your definition of a Buddhist? Only a person who has taken refuge in the Triple Gem or taken the 5 Precepts?

A Buddhist using it as a mantra could be it, but it's also Christian inspired rather than Buddhist, so I guess I see it pretty much exactly as it is, but personally regard it is silly internet nonsense.

I've done that a number of times (my handle means Triple Gem) but have never identified as a Buddhist. My reasoning is to become Buddhist (or identify with any religion) contradicts the universal nature of dhamma.

I think we also try to make 'born again' mean something other than becoming a Christian (and the subtext of Christ's resurrection), so I'm just putting all this down to a bit of poetic license.
