Redchic12, post #9: John Lennon explained that he got the title of that song from the “Alice in Wonderland “ story and a friends small daughter who was playing with her imaginary friend, which she called “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.” The hippies back then thought that song referred to the hallucinogen LSD drug, but it did not according to John Lennon.

Little children have imaginary friends, and some have real friends that are unseen by the adult mind. We can all benefit from getting in touch with our inner child as when we are playful our heart opens but with too much seriousness we can close down. I relate to Lucy in the sky with diamonds as the playful imagination of a small girl alone happily playing.

Correction: After reading the link in my previous post; it was John Lennon’s small son Julian who drew a picture which he called “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.” Still the inspiration came from the mind of a child.
