I have a friend who is a medicine man. As far as I am concerned, his healings mimic the healings of those who practice hypnosis for healing purposes.

I would like to add to this thread that, one real good way
to tell a good medicine man is by examining their standing
in their own community.

Then the ultimate way to judge, is in the results of the healing/cure.

The older a patient is and the longer the sickness has been present
the harder it is to heal.
Sometimes there is not a possible cure to a sickness, but healing
can be achieved by getting a person ready for a transition.

I have met people always looking for doctoring, but they really don't
want a cure, they seem to find comfort in being helped but not healed.
In other words their sickness gets them attention they crave.

The body can heal many sicknesses when given proper healthy: foods
water,air, minerals,activities and time.

Many times we look for that instant magical cure and relief.
Sometimes healing only comes through healthy change and discipline
over a period of time.

There is great healing in the feelings of security and unity and belonging.
Myself I think laughter is a powerful medicine and I have seen it work many times.

The best ones are the ones that you never see advertised or hear about except in their local communities by word of mouth. You can go and ask at any local reserve if you want. But go and ask respectfully please as many outsiders don't. Also please consider that many Native Communities are closed to outsiders at the moment due to the Covid 19 pandemic for good reason.

The best Medicine Man is yourself. You are your best teacher. Others can only give advice.
