Turning off the endless babbling
I have a way of making my dreams more open to whatever is in the outside world (the astral realm perhaps, I would not be able to say), which is: leaning back. In a dream I will lean back and automatically start floating, and then I will explore the dream world. The strange thing is that I do this semi-consciously: I'm aware that I'm using the "floating trick", but at the same time I'm continuing the dream without being fully lucid. Maybe this happens because the dream world is still making such a strong (and detail rich) impression, so that the "spell" that the dream is weaving remains intact.
Yesterday while I was floating there was a voice delivering a constant chatter in my ear. This is familiar too. I've reached the point where I'm quite sure that this chatter basically has no value and is better ignored. I was able to disconnect from it (this is more of a mental choice, it's not effortless, but it also doesn't require too much effort). Then the dream turned very interesting, mostly because of interesting surroundings and meeting interesting people. I intend to explore this type of dream more often, when I woke up it felt like I had already had enough fun and inspiration for the rest of the day.
ps I think practicing yoga every day again is also helpful to have more interesting dreams, it awakens a kind of energy that affects my dreams as well

I never practiced yoga and I have tons of dreams every night, among them lucid dreams and out of body experiences, even way before meditating, but you know this is me, everyone is different. The thing is that whatever you tell yourself and believe it, your subconscious mind makes it real for you and this is really amazing and really risky because working with these forces unknowingly may create problems.

Yes, it's definitely not a prerequisite. You could also say that yoga can open or unblock certain channels, but if these channels are already open then there is no need to unblock anything.
