Kris, don’t let it worry you. If you don’t know then you don’t know! What’s wrong with not knowing. Absolutely nothing. Just make a sincere intention eg I would love to know what God is, if it’s for the highest good of all concerned. Then just get on with your life and be open to whatever comes your way. Most of us in this world will never know what God is but does that really matter. We can still live a rich and rewarding life. I honestly don’t know either, but maybe it’s not for me to know and I can live with that because that’s the way it is. Hope that helps.

Redchic, God, as in the God of Abraham, does not figure in my thinking at all. I like and value clarity in speech. I care to understand how the universe operates and strive for it. I see God as totally unnecessary to understand the nature of life and the universe we live in.

....short answer to your excellent question: "Is God a man-made concept?"
No.
...any more than your, or any animal's ability to breathe the atmosphere anywhere on the planet is dependent upon its "belief" in its presence.
Try holding your breath and see PERSONALLY, what any animal knows without even troubling itself by "believing" it must "die trying" to find out. 
Inhalation demands exhalation, without which, in balanced measure, inevitably results in expiration. Breathe the Truth deeply, accordingly. (see pages 13/14 in the reference below).
Man is a God-made concept, (not the other way around), the truth of which you can find Infinite evidence on THIS and the OTHER side of the veil. See? "Always bear in mind that Man is the external world, the natural man; while imagination is the internal world, the man of spirit. God (imagination) became the natural man that the man of nature may become God who is Spirit."
Wait till you get to the part(s) where it is described what "animals" metaphorically are!

Neville Goddard is fabulous...many books - all of them I recommend ---better than youtubes on him.
