Aww great to hear others loved Flash Gordon. My brother used to pretend he was him and I was Dale, the girlfriend!
Hey AB. The wooden tops were my favourite as well. They used to be on every Friday afternoon.

His real name was Clarence Linden Crabbe II.

He was an exceptional person in his own right. He won two Olympic metals. One was a gold metal.

He played in Westerns and also played Buck Rodgers, Tarzan and Flash Gordon. Hard to believe he was that well rounded out.

I loved watching the cigar shaped space ships take off with their bellowing clouds of smoke.

I know !!!!
I didn't realise he was an Olympian . And as John says, wasn't he handsome ?
Phwarrrrr....he can climb up the tree in his loincloth to me !!!
( Although to be fair he would probably mistake me for cheetah the monkey and not Jane sob sob LOL...)
Although , does anyone remember the other "Tarzan" , he had very dark hair. He was hot too !!!!

Oh but I just need to address the woodentops again. I can't even tell you how much I loved it.They were 'peg" people and the mother was always holding the baby and looking out of a stable door on the house . I love stable doors and had one installed in my last house.
Then there was spotty dog !!!

Here's another for you Red.
Skippy the bush kangaroo. Do you remember ?
He always went to get help for the man that fell down the well and strangely enough the humans could always tell what he was saying hahahaha...

Not really! I never saw the movies and serials when they first came out. Even my parents didn't see the originals but I had a healthy appetite and I would sit in front of the TV and watched over and over again these movies and serials.

As for Buster Crabbe: I don't recollect ever seeing him in any Westerns even though he was in many of them. He even played Billy the Kid!

Another person who was famous but gets very little recognition was Gabby Hayes. He played in a lot of movies and at one time, had his own show. He died in 1969.

Aww AB I forgot about Spot the dog! Loved him. Yes now you mention it the mother always had the baby in her arms, I remember now.

The voice over would say…….oooooh and here’s mummy wooden top and then say, oooooh here’s Spot the dog. Not much,of a storyline but we loved it anyway.

Now here is another goodun’. The flower pot men would stop talking and then the flower would rise up between them and say………weeeeeeed! LOL

Ah yes Skippy. Jeez I would run all the way home from school to watch that. I was absolutely obsessed with it. I was fascinated with houses on stilts and thought everyone had a helicopter in their back garden and of course a pet kangaroo. I remember saying, “I’m going to live in Australia”. And here I am lol

By the way the houses built on stilts are mostly built in Queensland because it is so hot over there. They reckon the house stays cooler when the air can pass thru underneath but I think they have a lot of rain and there is quite a bit of flooding so it helps with that as well.

Yep great memories. I wonder if a kid of five or six would enjoy that kinda stuff now?
