In my experience, the ego-mind can get used to / accept / allow for the true being, the soul... and gradually surrender into it.

The surface persona doesn't disappear but as one no longer thinks of it as 'me', becomes even and balanced in oneself and in interactions.

This is my method of operation also.

Why get rid of something just because it doesn't agree with you.. sounds like turning that 'outside' intolerance of anyone who doesnt agree with us (religious views etc) onto ourselves.

Yes... rejection of and resistance to anything in ourselves is only more of what we don't like. Accepting it all, bit by bit, sets us free.
