Up untill the early 1980's I think it was BBC who signed off at night with the national anthem.
I used to watch Bilko in about 1981 while living with my nan.
That came on late at night then the national anthem would come on and the tv would go off !!

Our village had a candy store that had large candy bars that were 5 cents. They had one candy bar that was only 3 cents. That is where my money went. LOL!

Podshell. I know what you mean by the loaf being too big when you live alone.
My solution is to freeze the loaf as soon as I get home, then I take a couple of slices out each morning. By the time you need a sandwich they have defrosted and still as fresh as the day you bought it. One loaf lasts for ages.

I used to do that when I had a freezer-A lot of the time now I just keep a bowl of sour dough type of mix going and do single servings in the microwave or on the Forman grill for pizza base(this can be stored in fridge for slower ferment in a poly bag)also generally keep a sweet cake mix going too, healthy stuff compared to sugar laden shop bought as you can add all sorts of beneficial ingredients.Just also remembering my artist brother who once made a chess set out of bread!

Flash Gordon?
Buster Crabbe was a handsome man. He almost made it as Tarzan. He is no longer with the living but he died in Scottsdale, Arizona.... not too far north of where I live. He even played Wyatt Earp. Wyatt Earp became famous for his role in the gun battle at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona..... a city southeast of where I live.
Small World.
