Well, I'm not sure about writing, but I know that being a freelance illustrator can be tough, at least as a sole source of income. It helps to have a unique style, though, and your tribal illustrations certainly have that. I hope you will do very well. I went to art college myself armed with a passion for digital illustration, though so far those career plans have been derailed by one thing or another!
The chap in my avatar is a depiction of Auguste Dupin (a fictional detective created by Edgar Allan Poe). His appearance reminded me of one of my guides, and I will admit to rather admiring all of the gentlemen involved. Who is that in yours?

I figured. That's why I would love to have novel writing be my main career; I can do illustration/freelance work on the side for a little bit of extra cash. But then again, I'm planning on attending quite the expensive art school here where I live... my parents say they'll help me with the loans.
I'm just a bit stubborn. I have my mind set on what I want to do; I can't think of anything else I would enjoy doing!
(Thank you. )

Ooh~ Poe. Unfortunately, I've only read a few of his works... Still love them, though!
Oh. Mine is simply an illustration from one of my favorite artists on deviantart (art community site). She has amazing digital skills.

I like your new avatar, too. Is it by the same artist?
Well, it may not be easy, but that's never the point. Stubbornness is a virtue where your passions are concerned! Stay stubborn. I think if we feel a particular passion for putting something into the world then that is exactly what we came here to do, and if you are persistent enough about your direction you will eventually arrive where you want to be.
I was pleased to read earlier in the thread that you feel your guide helps you with your art. That's not an aspect of them that seems to see much discussion, but they are not always here just for the spiritual aspect of our development. I think the Greek concept of muses probably came from some of our creative guides.

Actually, a friend of that artist. Haha.
That's what I was thinking. As a result, it's a bit difficult to have that discussion with my parents (particularly my dad). I tell them that I don't really have a back-up plan because I feel so strongly about art and writing, and they give me the "things don't always work out the way you want them to" speech. But I think: "Heck, yes, they do! I'll show them! "
I know. I don't think I've ever read about a creative guide. I hear about main guides, wise old native guides, and teachers to help with healing and whatnot, but I never hear about creative guides! Sad.
(I LOVE YOU, SPIKE. I TOTALLY APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS. )
...There.
Man, West, your posts always please me. They're filled with such warmth and kindness. (I think I've said this before, but it's always worth restating!)

I recently finished these from my pottery (now sculpture) class. Probably one of the best 3D pieces I've done. I'm not a 3D person at all, lol.
Not too happy with the green one, though. It was a bit rushed and I couldn't get the base to be the same size and shape as the first (yellow) one. The eye looks wonky, too, because of the lack of glaze...

Bravo Evaah! I love them both! Their being asleep adds wonderful emotional depth to the overall feel! Very well done!

What fascinating pieces those are above. Did you perhaps have a past life in some sort of artistic tribal community, Evaah?
Back-up plans are not a bad thing - few are the artists who do not have to supplement their income at first, I suspect - so long as they do not derail your determination in any way. But I read in another thread that you won a scholarship. Congratulations!
I think perhaps the reason we hear little about creative guides is that those people who understand them as spirit guides tend to be spiritualists, and spiritualists tend to have spiritual teachers as their guides. However, I have heard many writers and artists claim to have "muses" or "characters" who speak to them and inspire them, and I wonder exactly to what degree these are imaginary.
And thank you. I am pleased by the thought that my posts inspire warm fuzzies. I approve of warm fuzzies.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if I did. I also wouldn't be surprised if I had a past life during the Renaissance or the Neoclassical era. I love that art so much.
(Oh, haha.. thanks! )
I agree with that. Personal experience: often, when I'm in the zone with my writing, I'll pick up on phrases or words that fit perfectly that seem to just "pop in" my head. So I believe that 100%.
People need more warm fuzzies in their life...
