Dig up roads and factories, you can't grow food on them and they are on habitable land , the seas produce lots, but is our way, we have ruined much of that by poisoning them and trawling what's left.
Lots of the produce ends up in landfill for future generations to deal with , we can't even recycle the waste.

''But what about...?''
The land they require is miniscule compared to the cow population.
The area around industry is often unused, and valuable habitat for various species. ''Brownfields'' as they are called.
https://ourworldindata.org/land-use
Earth: 29% land.
Habitable land: 71% (of that 29%).
Agriculture: 46% (of that 71%).
Land used for livestock (meat and dairy): 77% (of that 46%).
This is crazy. And even when comparing livestock, of course cows will require more land and food than chickens. So chicken and eggs >>> beef and dairy. By a loooooong shot. We use tremendous space just so we can eat beef, cheese and drink milk. It is crazy.
There are alternatives, lab grown meat will be one of them, it's on the menu in South Korea. In time it will become cheaper. And with it we will use less space than for cows. Other alternatives also exist, such as soy based substitutes for milk, and great meals with beans, nuts instead of meat. Many cultures around the world have done it a long time. A while ago I had Syrian food. No cheese, no meat. They made great and very tasty stuff with nuts.

Funneled wild herds use land that probably no one will live on and even if people lived on it, it wouldn't matter as in places like India cows roam free amongst people, the problem is us,we farm in a barbaric parasitic fashion(Really shouldn't be eating such a generous provider),and the proof is that now people want to finish the host off.BACK ON TOPIC-Lab meat is aƶther novelty to try and satisfy our senses, many of these things are like kids keep pestering parents for more and more and having house full of dangerous junk,we are already overproducing, overconsuming and overwasting. So any arguments about damage shouldn't relate to the cow itself.

Btw you could house the total population of the UK on the space taken up by roads as nearly all houses are beside roads anyway and many massive roads like motorways have no houses. So you are falling for childish pestering dressed up to look scientific and you will be doing them no favours by contiually pandering to whims.

And ''you can put the entire world population in Texas'' therefore there is no overpopulation and no pressure on resources.
But it's superficial geography. In real geography, there is not just the land we live on but the land we use to gather resources. And cows use a LOT. What I shared are just facts, we waste tremendous space on just feeding livestock. If we ate the alternatives, such as meals based on beans/nuts/soy milk, meat eaters switched to chicken meat, and invest in new alternatives (lab grown meat) we'll need far less land and can give land back to dwindling wildlife populations, and other uses (recreational, housing). The land used for cows are ''in the way'' of genuine progress and sustainability. Just look at the Amazon, there you can see it in real time, and in the past that happened everywhere else. It doesn't have to be that way, and it starts with our diets.

But lab grown meat means we don't change the way we eat it panders to the tastebuds instead of us advancing we just use something that could cause more problems. You talk of cost but once a few labs have got patents on their meat people will pay, meat addicts will be taken advantage of.

This is a perception of taste. And the given title.
There are also veggie burgers with a similar texture to chicken. And there are tomatoes called flesh tomatoes..
One can turn it the other way around. Why is yogurt made from cow's milk sort of similar to yogurt made of soybeans? We just decide to give it certain names, and we experience similar textures and structures to meals. It is perception, and choice to give it certain names. Sausage for instance. By 'majority's rule' or ''because it's common!'' we think of something as how it's ''meant to be''. But this is all subjective.
Does it ''pander to the tastebuds''. Yes. But is that a 'bad' thing?

There is plenty of ancient wisdom Altair that stands the test of time.
https://vaniquotes.org/wiki/The_real..._of_the_tongue
It is recommended in Bhagavad-gītā that one should accept as much food as necessary to keep the body fit, but one should not eat for luxury.
(What I think we need to realise is what problems we cause by trying to serve the belly and the taste buds, we become barbaric and dumb, go to war and blame it on religion, I suppose it is religion, the religion to the devotion to belly and senses rather than God)
