I would have your sister checked by a doctor just to be on the safe side, but I've heard of things like this before. People smell smoke, pipe tobacco, foods, perfume, all kinds of "smells". I only had it happen once and for just a few seconds I smelled a candle that had just been blown out, then a strange feeling like I wasn't alone in my room, got a funny feeling and the hair on my arms stood up.
It's the knock on your door that is throwing me! Have you heard any other "sounds"or noticed items "moved around" in the house?

Hi Stevem, I see that your last post was in 2011 - I too smelt burning toast last night and wondered if you discovered the cause of your smell? Was it medical? My nephew took his own life a few weeks ago, aged 22 and I have been having nightmares and been unable to sleep, last night I woke to the smell of burning toast - i could smell it in my dream and as i woke it lingered for only a few seconds and then disappeared? Could this be stress? An underling medical condition or my nephew's spirit? Would love to find out how you are - if you still smell this?

My sister keeps smelling toast during the night, lastnight she woke to the smell of toast again and also she heard two load knocks on the front door.
Can anybody please tell me what this means? We have heard that it could mean someone has died.
Thanks

I have been smelling toast occasionally at night, no explanation, it's very distinct. It's been going on for about a year and a half.
Not a burnt toast, just toast. I am sensitive to the presence of spirits when they're around, but I don't think that has anything to do with me smelling toast.
My search has brought me here. Anyone know something that I don't about this.
Thanks

Just that it is not that uncommon.. I went a period where I could smell toast for about 6 months every night like clock-work just as I was preparing for bed. Not sure what it means if anything.

Toast
We'll, I'm grateful that toast is not a bad smell, it could be worse
The other night, which was Wednesday night, I smelled toast again, but I also felt a presence of something in the hallway, a strong one,

Smelling toast could also have something to do with your heater. Dust, etc on the flame.
Knocking sound if it is only one knock could be from the change in temp..when your house is warmed up and then the temp drops woods will make a knock sound.
When I turn my furnace down at nights, my house comes to life. lol
