Breathing
I tried all kinds of meditation to get to the zone. What finally worked for me was to observe my breath and then direct it through various parts of my body as energy.
It was the observation of the breath and feeling the energy go through my body that entertained me enough to forget about everything else. (I was so incredibly bored doing meditation up to that point).
As I have been doing this meditation for more than a year now, I can be so relaxed as to be "floating" within 30 seconds.

Interesting tidbit: our word "spirit" comes from the Latin word spirare, meaning "to breathe" and is also the root of our word "respirate". Is it any wonder that breath and meditation go so well together?

Focus on your breathing or visualise a place that makes you calm and tranquil. Thoughts are inevitable, just let them pass and don't "feed" them.

It might just be the most important part!
All of your posts have been helpful, it stresses me a lot at times and I try to shake it out of my head - I'm possibly drawing more to myself with this shake it out my head thing... eeek!
I've recently come to understand and KNOW that this experience we call life is actually a kind of telepathy, none of it is physical. It made me feel scared of my own thoughts...I think I'm on the tail end of this thing now...I thankyou very much!
I have learnt a lot from your posts, you've been very helpful!

I think do not change your breathing in anyway, just breath naturally, and the only thing to do is become aware of the sensation of air moving in the nostrils and air moving out the nostrils (just the nostrils), the sensation being the point of focus, just feel the sensation and remain aware of it.
There is no need to add anything to that.
Many comments as to do with the nature of telepathy, physical, to think, not to think or any of these things are matters of philosophical opinion and there is no need for these theories...
...because if you wish to observe the breath you can, and it's that simple.
Yes, breath is the important part.

I took a Buddist beginners meditation class, in this class they were talking about letting go of our thoughts. We were told to let the thoughts enter the mind then, walk them out the door. Sounds a bit different, but I did it and it actually worked. Amazing, I visually walked my thoughts out the door of the room we were in ... and they stayed out there until the class ended ! lol !
Just a thought, something different to try Love&Light

Just a thought. Maybe the Quiet Mind is one of the skills that we, as a race, once possessed but lost along the way.

Hi Love&Light
For me It got to a stage where I became so determined to achieve quality meditation that when I sat down I refused to get back up until this was so.
The ordinary mind became accustomed to my behaviour/mentality so to speak, so that It became weaker and weaker as I continued to practice.
It was kinda like programming my mind In a way "not to give in" lol
