Enlightenment is...

...realizing that there was something that was unknown to you just a little while ago, but which you have learned now.

Then realizing that in just a little time ahead, you will learn something new that changes what you know now.

That could be classified as clarity, or awareness or realization though..

Being in the moment and being content with that, with just Being. Chasing it I think it's likely you will never find it. Most of my life I felt like a rodent running on an exercise wheel. Running and running, but never getting anywhere. It wasn't until one day I just said "Enough!" and jumped down off the wheel and sat down that I finally felt at peace.

Whatever journey I am on I'm not going to get there any faster by chasing enlightenment or whatever you want to call that experience and I'm at the point where that is not even a goal because I just don't see the point to making it one. If the journey is never ending so what? I'm cool with that. I'm fine with going where I want, taking my time, and maybe never arriving at a destination. Look down at my sig line. I think that quote says it all....

What is enlightenment?

Recognising Universal Spirit, though that is merely the beginning ...

Quickly followed by humility at one's past ignorance and acknowledgement of one's present ignorance and awe at the heights to be scaled - but resolve to scale them all the same.

And when your time is up, if you can leave the earth a better place than you found it, then yours will have been a life well lived.

How?

I wouldn't...enlightenment now has as many concepts and baggage
with the word as God does.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

knightofalbion,

This is a definition...an explanation.......that totally resonates with me. I appreciate that it is concise and does not confuse itself(or us) with needless detail.

Hi heart,

Enlightenment by its very nature directs its own expression.

Thank you all for your response, I would respond to individual posts here and each one is awsome... I will respond with one posting here as I see a patern arising in this thread

It is very hard to define enlightenment as each and every one of us has a perception of something that may or may not exsist.

yet I read each and every response and get the feeling that something is a knowing living presence just beyond the veils of our sences

as Pluto once said "you will never come into the form of man if you have never seen the truth"

so there is something that the heart and soul in each and every one of us that searches for something we may never know with our words or thinking

thank you

Its nothing or anything you want it to be..like everything in life that you create meaning from. We are life..

Its all here and now. The veil is your creation. It is both the knowing and unknown of life in creation of itself...You, me them, they, we, those, him, her are life as the living presence..(sense is spelt this way by the way )
