I'm glad you found a way around it. Lynn said PayPal was the only option when I brought it up. I have used PayPal in my online business and never had a security breach. And I've received payments from all over the world.

Be well.

.......... and the cost would be minimum.
Just my 2 cents worth.

If I had a slow computer I might do any or all of the upgrades you've suggested, none of which is inexpensive and two still needing a modicum of technical ability - I've done all of them.

But this website isn't a computer and the changes you suggested wouldn't be DIY ones. Specialists would likely need to be involved and that would probably cost. Even if everything was free, changes can lead to unexpected problems. I prefer simple using baby steps.

What kind of hosting are you using? I recommend using one.com, it's dirt cheap. Swedish internet infrastructing is pretty well developed so we have low prices compared to US. For instance Facebook recently moved here.

My take on the situation is that its all about the Moderators and they need to be having fun.

This is a good suggestion. I'll talk about this with the team.I know we are a little down on membership, so its not like there is too much to moderate these days, and we don't like to over police. However, its still helpful to expand our team, imho. Its helpful for people to know the ropes just in case we get sick, take breaks or move on ( all three has happened)

I have two days off now so I will have time to reply to you.

Obviously if Lynn is spending her 2 free days answering letters instead of meditating or having fun then she needs more help

There are a few names that pop up as potential moderators that i feel would be fair and levelheaded. Though i don't want to call anyone out.

now my ideas - could there be a nomination system - (offline so only the moderators could read it) if say 5 people nominate the same person - they could be contacted and at least made the offer - maybe feel that they are needed or appreciated - and thus feel the confidence to make the step.

On the same thought - the policing - if 5 people complained about the same person then it would be necessary to do something about it.

So thats all ... and whatever you decide -- keep it simple

and PS there's a technology point which comes to mind but it is very much secondary - the continuity of communication would be better if there was a way of knowing if someone else has quoted you

I second what Altair said. I too like the traditional format of these forums. In fact, it was one of the reasons why I wanted to join it. In this age when everything is going hi-tech and audio-visual -- whoa, check this out -- a place where text is valued most above pictures and videos. I'm in my forties and the layout of these precious forums makes me feel all nostalgic.

That said, I thought this might be a good time and place to point out a slight technical issue I've been experiencing. It involves posting messages. Of late, after I've logged in and hit the "Go Advanced" button, my message disappears and I'm taken back to the Log In page. I then log back in, re-type a message, press "Go Advanced" and grumble. There it goes again. After about the third time, it works.

Checked the stats in "What's Happening" a few minutes ago. Over 200 000 members and over 3500 active ones! That to me seems like more than enough to keep the message boxes overflowing and the moderators hopping.

Hello Members

Much of what I do on site behind the scenes is not what others honestly can help me with. It would be nice, its not always "Admin" stuffs....that finds me.

Many times its deeply personal issues that find a path to me, or shy members needing some questions answered. It is the same in my off line life, I am there for others, and I can get busy in many good ways.

I did 30 minutes today total with Admin duties, account approvals ect. The rest of the time was breakfast out with a friend, then some readings, and helping some members off site.

Life is good. Days are balanced. Life is balance or there is no life.

Too with the Sciatica issues I have been having I find that I am "sitting" on ye old back end a bit more as that is Dr's orders so that I can do my "leg exercises" that have been issued.

Lynn

Your work on the forum is appreciated Lynn. I hope you are not working too hard. I would not like you to get burn out. Make sure you have quality time for yourself. It was good that you had breakfast with a friend.

Hello !

I just had an idea that could be a small contribution. Would, by default, deactivate auto subscription to the welcome threads (when welcoming a new member) by any chance help the site run more smoothly ?

Just my 2 cents.
