IMO there are Buddhists that have a deeper understanding of Christian scripture than most Christian fundamentalists and literalists. Thich Nhat Hahn comes to mind. They bring a fresh eye for seeing wisdom……

That can said to be 'true' of other religions. For example, some Muslims are fluid in the teachings of Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc. but I digress.

and then, what appears is the expression "Christian fundamentalists and literalists" which at times seems to be a recurring sub-theme......

So, getting back to the main subject, from what I have seen, most Buddhist if not all Buddhists, seem to look at the Christian Scriptures thru the lens of Buddhism. Of course there are some concepts that seem similar but it appears Buddhists don't seem to recognize some of the main themes in the Bible which do not seem to align with Buddhist beliefs.

Falling Leaves,

One word makes a big difference…….e.g. may have life vs. will have life. ‘May’ is conditional whereas ‘will’ indicates certainty. In your previous post you rightfully spoke several times about opportunity….which one must avail himself of……implying personal action…..but then it apparently seems unfair to some that everyone is not simply just given spiritual knowledge.

My understanding on this is with religion one develops an indirect union with God, through scriptures, priestly teachings, and corporate worship. With mysticism one develops a direct union with God, through one's intuition, spiritual exercises, and private practices, this fits with my belief.

It seems to me that if we fill ourselves up with all these scriptures, where’s the SPACE left to fill ourselves up with the divine experience.
