I love this topic as pagan practise is behind many holiday tradisons that have now been adapted and comercialiased, as a child it was turnips we used instead of pumpkins , keeping a Symphoricarpos (snowberry plant) was used as an offering to passing spirits, the use of essencial oils such as ginger ,sandalwood and black pepper to raise a positive mindset to lead us into winter. These are some of the things passed from my grandmother who taught us how thin the vale fell at this time to allow our passed loved ones to be closer . Passing traditions down is so important and it seems to be getting lost in society through generations .
