books or movies?

Many movies are based upon books. Do you prefer the books or the movies? Personally I much prefer to go to the original story and the book. Movies often pile on the style and miss out the substance. For example the book 'Dances With Wolves' is better than the movie, even though the movie won best picture at the Oscars.

Good point Honza.

I found that the movie The Red Sparrow was so disappointing compared to the book.

The main thing that the book spoke about was that the Russian Woman Spy was born with the ability to see the Aura around people (since being a child) so of course she knew who was lying etc so it helped the reader understand why she was such a good spy for the Russians. But there was no mention of this ability in the movie so it lost its meaning for me and perhaps other people as well.

Where the Crawdads Sings was another dud movie compared to the book. Imo

Hi Honza, books for me. Film adaptations will never be as good as the books, however I like the visual aspect and the special effects.

with the instance of the movie Practical Magic though, I love the movie as it is, but it is way different than the book, which I also love.

In my experience, if I have read a really good book I am keen to then see the film.
However, I am always disappointed because the actors are never how I imagined them, and they always leave bits out !!!
On the flip side , if I have seen a good film, I CANNOT then read the book because I know how it will end !!!!
