Rising above disturbances that cloud the awareness

While still, calm water represents pure awareness, the waves (disturbances) of the water represent feelings and thoughts. Water is present in the waves but the waves aren’t present in the water; they are simply modifications of the same water.

In other words, where waves are present, water is definitely present. But where water is present, there necessarily needn’t be any waves. Similarly, thoughts and feelings indicate the presence of awareness. Awareness, on the other hand, can simply exist without such thoughts and feelings.
Suffering is actually a feeling. The feeling is a just wave of awareness-energy.

You may feel that you are this gross body (made of matter and inert energy), but such a feeling is precisely what it is—unreal. Actually ‘you’ are a just lump of awareness, which has only one characteristic property, i.e. to be aware of itself (chit or soul). This lump of awareness becomes associated with some kinetic energy, subsequently becoming a feeling.

Separate the kinetic energy (mentally) and add the now-separated kinetic energy to the inert energy of the gross body. The waves of awareness disappear and only a lump of awareness remains, which is the soul or yourself.

Similarly, apply the same analysis to attraction, because attraction is also a feeling. Suppose you’re attracted to a quality. Quality is also a feeling and with constant analysis, you can easily avoid being disturbed. Suppose you’re attracted to a form in the world like the beautiful form of a boy or a girl. Every form in the world becomes unreal if you remove all the material (matter and inert energy) from it. When beauty is unreal, quality is unreal, attraction is unreal and suffering is also unreal, then why are you disturbed? Similarly, hatred is also a feeling and is unreal.

There are two ways to avoid disturbances caused by worldly problems. Either become immune to the problems by the constant memorization of the above analysis (Pravritti) or enjoy suffering just as you enjoy tragic scenes while seeing a movie or like you enjoy hot dishes while eating your food. The latter state is the state of God who enjoys this creation with infinite bliss (Nivritti).

The first way is that of ‘Atma Yoga’, which gives you undisturbed peace. The second way is that of ‘Paramatma Yoga’, where you obtain continuous bliss as result of being entertained by both pleasant and unpleasant situations. Choose one of these two ways and avoid those disturbances that cause mental stress, which lead to damaged health resulting finally in total destruction.

Of course, there definitely might be more than those two ways described in the original message.

When it comes down to it, the goal is the same in every case. It's just the path that differs. If one rigidly stick to one's path, then there's no problem in that; one reaches the goal all the more quickly. The problem arises only when one says that a certain path is greater than another and starts abusing it.

I digress, but yeah, the message is from the Swami.
