The Path To Enlightenment

I had some gravel in my shoe
I felt it underfoot
It nestled in between my toes
It didn't hurt a lot

I felt the pebble in my shoe
I didn't want to stop
So I carried on regardless
To enjoy my country walk

But soon the small rock in my shoe
It was a real trial
Of my courage and my fortitude
And best defence- denial

I had a boulder in my shoe
And each step made me shout
Until I crumpled to my knees
My willpower all burned out

I winced in pain, removed my shoe
I shed a wounded tear
Afraid to look, it hurt so much
The boulder, blood and fear

I found the gravel in my shoe
A tiny speck of grit
It sparkled in the sun, I wondered
What to make of it

I thought of all the boulders
In my heart, weighing me down
I felt them shrink and lighten
By some miracle profound

Each tiny speck of hurt and pain
That I had long denied
Faux boulders needing tender care
Acknowledgment applied

What a miracle, that lesson learned
From one small speck of stone
On my journey through this life
To reach the place my heart calls Home.

Tiny specs and boulders alike, nothing amiss when the heart is in fight..

This is a really wonderful piece of writing BW. x
