I was baptized and raised Catholic my whole life, went to church every Sunday, religious studies, received holy communion, went to confession, was confirmed as an adult Catholic and went to private Catholic middle school, high school and college where I had to take religion classes! Of course this was all forced upon me as a child. I never felt comfortable with it. It didn't feel right to me.

It was about 3 years ago that I read Michael Newton's books "Journey of Souls" and "Destiny of Souls" and its when I had the "a-ha!" moment where I realized that this is the actual reality and truth and felt very comfortable with everything described.

What's your story?

ThoughtOnFire – If we didn’t question our beliefs, we would never venture to explore other paths to open doors to a vast amount of knowledge, including spiritual growth. Besides that, how do we know that our beliefs are something we want to continue to embrace if we don’t challenge them against other’s beliefs in life? The whole exploration process is what keeps us in a seeking mode instead of a sleeping mode.

I think it is healthy to constantly subject our beliefs to scrutiny, i.e. appraise them in the light of new information that may test them. That way you find out how strong and valid they still are. I have beliefs but am not too attached to them since I am more interested in the truth (as far as it can objectively be attained) so I constantly mull over new/interesting/related info and see how my current beliefs still shape up to this. This is where, I feel, orthodox religion falls down - they are not interested in this process, i.e. assimilating new info that may cause them to rethink their belief.

There is a difference between belief and direct, inner knowing. This thread is about beliefs.
