I only voluntary cut myself once in my entire life last summer because I thought the person who was my TF wanted nothing to do with me and I thought physical pain would help endure the emotional pain I was expericing.

Unrequited love can be a tough thing to go through. It's also a logical thing to experience a spirit complex during the experience of it. The reason for this is we (unconsciously) seek the missing parts of ourselves in the other person. Our love is grounded in the escape of pain we associate with a sense of deficiency, and when the object of our love is removed from the equation, we can no longer escape the pain that was already here. That pain is the causal emotion for spirit attraction, which would lead to a rendezvous with a group of spirits that actually want to inflict pain on you.

From a wider angle lens, you could say these spirits are actually a guidance system to healing the soul complex. Its your minds way of letting you know that the old way of interfacing with the universe isn't working. The seeking mechanism (the idea fulfillment is outside the present moment) is not a conscious mechanism, and if left unchecked, turns the human experience into emotional degradation. This degradation can be a wake up call to consciousness, because consciousness, what the body appears to, is not degrading, and indeed, you are consciousness.

With a foundation in consciousness the seeking mechanism is now noticed. The next question is, why do we want to avoid the present moment? And the answer to that is generally some form of energy in the body. And if there is now consciousness of that energy, you see the causal emotion for the experience of unrequited love. Uproot that energy, change the human experience.

You must test any spirits before you listen to them. Accept only holy spirits sent from the Great Spirit. Also, know them by their fruits! If they are harming, shaming or any other negative action they are not holy spirits. When you pray/meditate ask for guidance only by TRUTH.

Negative entities can sometimes interrupt your conversations with your real spirit guides.
So most likely, the positive experiences you had were real experiences with your actual guides and the negative experiences were the negative entities trying to interfere.

Sounds like communication is getting crossed.

Have you tried cleansing them away with sage or by any other means?
