At the level of artificial consciousness you mean.....

I *think* what you're trying to say is this. It's kind of like that question if a tree falls in the forest, and no one's around to hear it, does it make a noise? Well no it doesn't because it is the brain that takes the sound waves and interprets them into sound. Sound doesn't exist as such without an observer to translate the sound waves. Just as objects don't truly exist in the way we see them without an observer's brain to translate the light waves into particle form.

Couldn't have said it better myself I wonder though... do sound waves get effected the same way as physical objects? I wonder if there is a way to test it.

It does indeed make a sound. Just because someone's ears aren't around to hear the sounds doesn't mean that sound waves are not produced by the tree's fall. Sound is defined as vibrations capable of being received , its not something caused by the person hearing it.

similarly UV and IR light exists, just because we can't see it doesn't mean its not there.

SpiralNature it wouldn't be sound, as you said its a vibration. If no one or thing was around to hear it, it would make a vibration not a sound.

Recording something also shows the same results as a conscious observer, as it takes an observer to set and place the record. Giving the same amount of conscious awareness to that space/mass.

I think this thread has been derailed. Anyway it's an interesting idea lemex. I'm sure you've tripped over things in dark that you couldn't see. There's a lot more to it than human awareness.

I actually do believe that, however I'm also an animist. What we experience is essentially a relationship.

Hello

I awlays wonder if just becasue we can see something is it really there. I can see things no one else in a room see's but its there. ( or is it ) the Spirit I see would dispute that because only I can see them they are not there. To me they are there but I know well they are not physical, that aspect that is needed to say its an object.

Is an object only something that has a physical foundation where more than just the sense of sight can be applied. For it to be an object do we need to be able to experience it with touch ? Does something need a mass ?

Lynn

I find it easier to look at it like levels of density. The form of life/existence would be there just in a much lower density of mass.
