The Lone Ranger and Indian Spirits?
So I just watched the new Disney movie "The Lone Ranger" and was thinking about how Tonto who was played by Johnny Depp would always talk about the spirits and how they talked to him. And how there were spirit guides and the such.
It made me curious as to how much of this is true about Native American culture. Does anyone have any interesting facts about stuff like this that they would care to share?
BTW the movie was better than I though it was going to be. Especially at two and a half hours long.

There is probably an element of truth in it, just like all movies, but its only a movie at the end of the day.

Johnny depp wanted to play the part of tonto to show that The ndns are more in tune with what goes on than they have been potrayed through the years, all westerns made the ndn to be savages etc, johnny has got native blood in him so he wanted to show that they are not savages,in fact he is putting money into ancient ndn lands so it can be handed back to the ndn people.it is being sold so he wants to do his bit good for him i say.

That is really interesting Native Spirit, I hadn't heard that about Depp before.

Not seen the film so can't comment, but most of how Native American peoples have been represented by Hollywood over the years is fundamentally racist and historically inaccurate.
For the most part it was the white man who was 'savage' and doing the marauding.
But then history is written by the victors...

If you want to see a good film about Plains Indian Mythology, see the Movie by Hallmark made in 2003, called "Dreamkeeper".

Thunderheart with Val Kilmer is good too. We didn't see Lone Ranger because
it looked like another Jack Sparrow movie. One was good, but four is three too many. Depp was made honorary member of some tribe (forgot) that isn't here in NM where it was filmed, by some N.A.s that are here from that tribe (I think thats how it went). I'm anything but an expert but I do know a few N.A.s around here, and my wife is 1/2 Modoc (from the Pacific NW) , though she was raised Mormon (she's well-recovered from that, thanks ). She's gotten lots of vision and guidance from the spirit planes , though she doesn't use guides, per se . It comes easy to her , but I can't say that's because of her genes or just being a certain type of spiritual person. I read a lot about N.A. when I was young ; never doubted their accounts of encounters and journeys of spirit.

I am not sure I understand, Mormonism is a religion. How can you recover from a religion? That's like saying, she's recovered from her previous beliefs.
Maybe you could enlighten me.
