Looking for some insight

Hi,

My name is Tim and I am new to the forum, and wanted to describe my experience to see if any of you kind folks would be able to offer some insight.

Background Info.

My father and mother both passed within 4 months of one another just over 3 years ago. My relationship with my mother was very strong, and I considered her my best friend in the world.

I was present when they both passed, and honestly would not of had it any other way. It was a incredibly draining experience with each of them, but it was the least I could do as they have done so much for me.

Before my mum passed, I would spend as much time as possible with her, often laying in bed and joking around. I turned to her about 2 weeks before she passed and said something along the lines, when the inevitable happens if there is anyway to mess with me from the other side please do it! Just don't make it creepy!!! She loved this comment and laughed and laughed, but I was dead serious.

Sure enough I experienced a couple odd things almost immediately after she passed, and was pretty convinced it was my mum 'messing' with me.

3 years later, I still grieve the loss of my mum in particular. We were very close and for the last week my emotions have been running wild. I'm embarrassed to say it, but I didn't realize it was my mum's birthday until a few days before it was here. So I figured that explained my heightened emotions.

Now for the weird stuff.....

For the last week every time I thought of my mother I would physically feel tingly inside. Literally every time, and it was daily. I recently re-read a book called 'A Gift of Light' and afterwards decided I would try and start my spiritual journey.

I sat down last night to meditate for the first time in my life, and was completely overwhelmed with the experience. I had soft music in the background, and was repeating comments to myself quietly such as 'love does not die', 'I love you mum', 'Happy Birthday' etc over and over....

The tingly sensation was full on. I felt it all over my body, and at one point in became so strong it actually scared me so I stopped meditating.... Then this morning (mum's birthday) I walk out of the house, grab my bike and there was a HUGE monarch butterfly sitting directly in my path of leaving the house. I have NEVER seen a monarch butterfly at my new house, and I have lived here for about a year now.

Is this normal??? I've read the tingly sensation is energy? But would someone feel this 'energy' while doing the dishes and thinking about a loved one? I mean this has been a consistent thing for about a week.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I plan on beginning my spiritual journey after the experiences of the last week.

I simply cannot accept these events are coincidence, and believe the time must be right for me to start my journey down this path.....

Thanks!!
Tim

Sorry to hear about your loss and it can be hard around significant dates like birthdays. Tingling is common for meditators but intense tingling on your first meditation is less common, and I could only speculate why that might be. People say it's energy or one thing or another, I don't know what that means, but it's a sensation, and you know what it's like, 'tingles'.

Monarchs are a migratory species, so they occur annually, but as you say the events are related, no doubt they are, and if you believe the time is right for 'your journey', then it is.

This reminds me of choosing the red pill and see how deep the rabit hole goes.
Success and good luck on your journey.

I think that in times of trauma is when that hidden strength comes fourth, now is the perfect time to begin your journey. Good luck and may the Lord keep you and your mother. :)

Thank you for your responses.

I am going to continue daily meditation, and start reading some books to gain knowledge to help me on my journey.

Unfortunately, I do not have significant amounts of time which I can dedicate to this at the moment. I'm currently a 2nd year engineering student, but I completely plan on doing what I can during my spare time.

Does anyone have any books to recommend for someone just starting their spiritual journey? I was planning on picking up a copy of Ruth Montgomery's 'A Search for the Truth' because while reading another book this book was mentioned stating the author passed away on my birthday or all days.... So I thought this may have been a sign, and held some significance.

Thanks again!

Tim, you can practise ' Mindfulness Meditation ' at any moment of your day, while doing anything. You do not have to sit for a certain amount of time to get the benefits. As you say you don't have a lot of time this would be ideal for you. Hope this helps.

"Thus, death in the family is often a time of initiation into spiritual realms for those left behind. New capacities for interacting with spiritual dimensions are brought forth and need to be dealt with. Profound questions arise that must be answered. Often death of a loved one is the first time people stop to really question the meaning of life and begin seeking an answer." - Emma Bragdon

My Mom's passing had the same impact/effect on me.

As far as your question, here are some books which I enjoyed:

- The Untethered Soul (Michael Singer)
- The Power Of Now (Eckhart Tolle)
- The Holographic Universe (Michael Talbot)
- Deep Meditation (Yogani)

You can look these books up on the Google Books website and there should be an option to preview the text, so you can read portions of the contents to see if it will interest you...

Happy Seeking Tim!
