Just watching "love your garden" with Alan Titchmarsh.
Today he's in Hull making over the garden of a 90 year old lady that served in the land army in ww2 .

Some might say why bother if she's 90,?

I would say more than anyone she deserves this accolade as she still goes round schools teaching the children how it was in the war.

Her family home was bombed out in the blitz.

She loved her garden, growing fruit and veg and salad, and flowers .
But now she can't bend down to tend it so it's gone to wrack and ruin .

They are raising all her flower beds and veg beds and making her garden beautiful for the years she has left.

A lovely tribute to this wonderful lady.
And you've just got to love Alan Titchmarsh .

Its a lovely programme John.
He goes all over the country doing the derelict gardens of deserving people that for one reason or another can no longer do it themselves.

The results are stunning.

...I love to see beauty grow from dereliction , neglect, wasteland , and places just gone to ruin despite best intentions.

I love to see beauty "emerge" from nothing.
From sad Barron land , from areas that are an eyesore , from waterlogged and weed infested waste areas.
Depressing upon the eye to witness , especially if one has to travel these routes on a daily basis.

It can make an even more depressing day with trying to commute through roadworks, detours, traffic jams ....
And then the only "view" is the empty haunted spaces to look at.
So very sad....

...But then again, don't we all love something that is created out of nothing ???

I'm thinking specifically of Lancelot Brown.
Or as we know him "Capability Brown".
How fabulous was he.
Born in 1716 and one of the most famous landscapers ever.

He created and landscaped the grounds of Burton Constable Hall in HULL and if I'm honest I'm a little bit obsessed with him.

A few of his other acclaims are ...

Blenheim palace
Chatsworth house
Harewood house...

Among many others .

Aged only 67 when he died ( which was quite good for those days) he achieved such a lot ...

A famous person we had in 'America' was Johnny Appleseed who loved, according to legend, planting apple trees across the country while it was 'young'.
