Even pundits are important to ensure that proper intellectual understanding is there, or else society would be hijacked by fraudsters and pseudo-scholars like Virochana.
But I do agree that experiential understanding is superior to mere intellectual understanding.
But precise intellectual understanding is superior to delusional understanding, intentional fraud and nonsense.

Yes, yama and niyamas , which are the moral pillars that go alongside yogic practice ( such as honesty, truthfulness, independence, nonviolence) is also important.
Character is superior to mere intellect. The intellect itself is sharpened on the whetstone of character and character traits like honesty, truthfulness and due diligence
