Schizophrenia can cause effects situations similar to your own. The sufferer describes what you've described.
I'm not a medic but I think research will show that when effective medical intervention is achieved the sense of having a spirit companion fades or disappears.
I wrote on this subject only recently, a woman describing to me her experiences in a way very similar to your own account. She was similarly diagnosed and had stopped taking her medication. I made suggestions for her to consider.
You could sit with an experienced medium (or a so-called spiritual medium) to see if that medium is able to discern a spirit form linked to you. If she can and if it's malevolent you will have your evidence. If she can't you might want to think about why.
