Spiritualism doesn't claim to teach anything to anyone. To use an old saying, the table is laid and each takes from it what they wish - it's a spiritual buffet!
I've heard it said that the scientists and engineers of today are inspired and guided by their spirit-side counterparts who are also working on finding solutions to problems or following developing science in our physical dimension.
As with natural mediumship there's no saying that a scientist didn't have her/his attributes of investigation and discovery when she/he first entered this world. Our many sciences can, of course, be learned about in great depth but some truly ground-breaking techniques may have been 'fed' to receptive specialists from their counterparts in the world of the spirit.
Perhaps that's how humankind has always made the greatest scientific or artistic progress?
