When I was going through a tough time, I dreamed of an indoor garden. It was rich and lush with life: plants and sunlight streaming in everywhere I looked. It was quite vivid and in the dream I thought, "This is me, my inner life."
So in waking meditation I went there for a while.
Then when I did my first lengthy meditation to meet a spirit animal, my path led to a jungle pool. That felt more like me then, and I met an animal that lives in hot climates and suited that place.
For the past couple years, when I go to a "me" soft of place, it's instead a meadow that appears, full of grasses and wildflowers and busy with summer insect life. I feel aware of bees and butterflies and various other buzzing life.
These are the environments where I feel most serene internally. The last one might be influenced by having planted a lot for honey bees in the yard, and spending time watching those plants that draw huge numbers of cabbage whites (little white butterflies), bumblebees, carpenter bees, and honey bees.
