The context may have changed but little else has, how we respond to our environment hasn't. We've been exerting ownership over the land and changing nature since we became farmers to suit our own purposes, and I dare say that the structure of society now and the structure then really wasn't that different. There were 'haves' and 'have nots' back then too, and people who had land and those that did not.

Personally I think this is where the anthropocentric consciousness developed from, by way of ownership of crops, land and domesticated animals that would have run loose prior to that.

The gods really haven't changed either but they wear different clothes, often the gods represented agency or authority, or forces of nature. Zeus doesn't judge and dish out reward or punishment, we have karma to do that nowadays. The only real difference is the God of monotheism, but his source is a real, living being who was worshipped as a God - and did all the things the Old Testament God did.

There's no real difference between the 'structure' of the Universe - such as the 'human realms' and the 'higher, Spiritual realms' - and the structures and hierarchies that we create within society, and that's because the structures that are created have the same source. But then, people have been thinking the same thing ever since being a farmer was better than being a hunter-gatherer and having ownership. So for all the talk of Spiritual evolution, the more things have changed the more they've stayed the same.

If Spirituality is a phase, is it still Spirituality?
