thoughts concerning empathy

Hello all.

One of the characteristics we commonly associate with "empathy" is that empathy involves "fellow feeling"---seeing through others eyes, putting ourselves in their shoes,---and such like.

Fair to say imo that we consider this possibility as being predominantly a connection which we feel able to choose to make with other life forms--perhaps principally with life forms with which we feel able to share lifes predicaments?

However. Such understandable predominance perhaps limits--unintentionally--the extent of knowledge which may be accessed by means of empathy.

If in our mind we choose to extend our "fellowship" beyond "I am" to "we are" and then to the further step of "all is " , then the mind becomes conscious of a possible channel/portal of communication with unknown possibilities.

A question then arises as to whether such a possibilty may be a reality, and if so how is such reality made evident, and if made evident, then with what consequence ?

There is imo a threshold to cross, for the mind to cross. The threshold is is of the nature imo of a perceptual change---the expansion of fellowship as suggested above--combining with the mind choosing to make behavioural changes which harmonise with that perceptual change. In this manner imo the mind truly fulfills being of the whole interdependent interconnected process of existence and as such able to access a far different form of the means of communicating knowledge?

Perhaps some may choose to call this arrival/uncovering possibility which are able to arrive at as being "enlightenment" ? --and perhaps we may be able to arrive by seemingly different paths ?

cheers.
