Daylight slants like razors
my house, too, is cut in half
far from
the saxophone singing
streets
of Harlem
far from the era of new
but still cheeks slant upwards,
and golden tongues dance
and new nurses superb and devoted
go from unseemly to really
in my time
and when the lazy mid-day rest
is cut
by a cry
I wonder with the tsk'ing
neighbors of yours
did you hear about Her Husband,
did you hear about the girl?
For all the magic in the world
I still stall for the love
they feel
for this or that girl
