Yeah, thought or mindmanagement is a necessary skillset to navigate and sail safely through the ocean of life avoiding the rocks, storms and sandbanks leading to shipwreck.

By being self-aware we can consciously respond to problems and minimise them instead of compulsively reacting to issues and exacerbating them. The goal of meditation and spiritual exercise is to bring about this self-awareness and ability to choose a positive and rational attitude in all circumstances.

Very well stated.

Often the rush of emotions due to past psychological memories of pleasure and pain is very strong, and it takes a lot of presence within to defuse it in time and act prudently than rashly. Meditation is that which increases the presence within.
