I may not understand the physics of this, but presumably the same applies to all of our sense perceptions?

So we do not touch but the sensation of touch arises. We do not taste but the sensation of taste arises. We do not see but the sensation of sight arises. And so on.

In other words, that which is experiencing is always separate from that which is experienced but somehow experiencing happens.
