Yes, I would recommend the typical Zen meditation. Sit cross-legged with no expectation, watch the breath.
Then you will learn as you go, whatever you do actually, this is what life is about
: either you loop into your habits, or you move on and expand your knowledge and consciousness.
The astral plane is "dangerous" because it's a mix of people's emotions, desires etc.
It's full of "consciousness", fancy word, but to my knowledge there's no Life, the vibrant real Life!
