Being an empath and HSP, my wife and I have been married over 23 years and two children. When we have a relationship wobbly, I will leave the room not only to cool off but to limit my exposure to the fall out of emotions that linger and have the potential to reactivate the episode. My wife and I have an understanding of this now and it is acknowledged, accepted and managed. It is when this gift is not managed or understood correctly it can have negative effects. Not just for the empath but for those around them. Generally, most empaths can be quite passive.
